"When I was a kid I drew pictures. When I was a teenager I drew pictures. And now, I'm still drawing pictures. I love to draw and create works of art. My favorite hobby. " Born and raised in Big Spring, Texas, a small town out in west Texas. I spent most of my childhood wandering through and playing in the pasture behind my house. My imagination would explode every time I would go back there. I was a competitive little kid, always trying to be the best at every sport and always trying to win. After graduating high school, I moved to Austin, TX, which is just a little north of me now. Over the years, I've managed to draw, paint, sculpt, create many great pieces of art and graphics. I've also been fortunate to be hired to do commissioned work as well from several clients. In 1996, I had my first art showing (not school related) at the Paramount Theater/Coffee Lounge, downtown Austin. I had displayed some pencil drawings of the Fab Four, and sold my first piece. Not only that, but I played keyboard with my brothers, Eric and Mark. (Currently my two older bros., cousin, and 2 friends are out on the road, rock-star style, smokin' texas country. Check them out and buy a CD. They are bad a_ _ and know how to put on a good show. No Really, check them out. www.myspace.com/markmckinney ) From 1999 to 2002, I submitted comic book samples after comic book samples. I started my art career drawing for and submitting comic book art to various companies for consideration (Crossgeneration comics in Florida, Image Comics in California, and Marvel Comics in New York). Man, I pumped out some cool comic book style pics and wrote 3 comic books during this time. I fully illustrated one called The Power of the Origin, an epic fantasy I was writing, about a female elf ling, with the power to save her planet from the evil elven devil, Lord LaCruel'. (The Power of the Origin) Issue 1
I also was working on a marvelous Sci-fi/Thriller, Another Layer. I wanted to complete the first 6 issues and self publish them but I got about half way through the first book and had to put the project on hold due to expenses.
In 2002, I drew a few pieces that I wanted to display and sell around Austin, which are in my collection, called Musicians and Poets.
Since then, I'm still adding to this collection. I would love for this collection to grow and one day have many famous musician and songwriters done in this style. I absolutely love this kind of medium. All are prisma pencils on black paper or some other color that's not white. These are some of my favorites. In 2003, I mostly painted oils and re-discovered the challenges with this medium. Oils aren't easy to work with, but I managed to do some pretty cool abstracts.
In 2005, I launched www.paulmckinneyart.com, a website set up to help promote my art and portfolio. The website needs updated but at least it's up and prints are available.
2007 to current, I've been busy with poster designs for local musicians, cd cover designs, t-shirt designs and now launching . From this point forward, I will be designing and selling t-shirts and artwork at festivals around central Texas. I will update this bio at a later time so until then...
Sorry, I will continue soon...
